Step into the fresh air and uncover another side of Angkor on foot with Destination Asia, following trails that lead through forest, rice fields and ancient temple grounds. Away from the vehicle, exploring becomes part of the experience, with every step revealing something new – towers appearing between the trees, intricate carvings, hidden gateways and centuries-old walls entwined with roots.
An activity that everyone can partake in, walking also provides access to quieter corners of the archaeological park, away from some of the busier roads and entrances. Along the way, there are opportunities to encounter village life, pause beneath the forest canopy and explore lesser-known ruins surrounded by nature.
Destination Asia’s gentle walks typically cover five to ten kilometres and can be adapted to suit the heat, terrain and interests of each guest. One route connects Bat Chum with Ta Prohm, crossing rice fields, villages and forest before passing Sra Srang, the former royal bathing pool. Another follows the ancient walls of Angkor Thom, uncovering secluded temples, gateways and historic relics along the way.
It’s an active and rewarding way to experience Angkor, combining time outdoors with history, nature and a deeper exploration of one of Asia’s greatest archaeological sites.
