Adventure activities for all tastes

Category: News Stories

Just as with the word luxury , adventure can mean very different things . At Chic we have a number of clients who regard tasting a wide variety of cuisines as part of a culinary adventure . Going from the north to the south of Thailand , wanting restaurants known for the authentic influences . Or maybe travelling to several very different counties , with the adventure coming in the scenic contrasts , vastly different but in many cases just an hour apart .

Singapore is a city where walking tours can be an easy adventure and is a great introduction to the SE Asia region . Deeply cultural , combining towering high rise with traditional residential areas . A real sense of pride from the local population , reflected in all aspects . The historical past & the high tech future , existing as neighbours .

Talking about history , Vietnam is fascinating , especially to those of us who recall the events of the late 1960’s/ early 70’s . Plus the contrasts between North & South are evident in virtually every way . Incredible adventure , to me best enjoyed as a complete tour taking in Hanoi / Halong Bay / Hue / Hoi An , Ho Chi Minh ( still mentioned as Saigon by many in the South ) and Mekong Delta .

For many adventure can be living close to nature , even if just for a few days . Exploring by trekking through dense jungle , maybe going into a deep cave , canoeing through mangroves , kayaking around lakes watching birds and monkeys go from tree to tree . And of course getting to see elephants up close and to learn so much about these incredible mammals , including making rather unique note paper . Nature has a way of wasting very little !

A place that combines all of the above is the Elephant Hills camp in Khao Sok , southern Thailand , easily accessible by road from Phuket , Khao Lak and Krabi . See image above . 3 or 4 days of action packed adventure variety . Tented accommodation , with at least one night floating on a lake . I think every tour operator in the UK will rate this as one of the best and most popular adventure experiences anywhere in the region with tremendous satisfaction .

Of course you have to tell clients the realities of living side by side with nature , slipping and sliding and seeing small animals scamper away through the bush is all part of the adventure .

Another place suggested for authentic nature experiences would be a tour combining Sarawak & Sabah on Malaysian Borneo . For this you would need to set aside at least 8 days as there is so much to see , in terms of culture , varied scenery with dense forests , flowing rivers , prehistoric bat caves and amazing wildlife , including Orang Utan . Just amazing .
