Climbing Mt. Fuji responsibly in 2025

Category: News Stories

One of the great adventures in Japan is to climb the majestic and iconic Mt. Fuji.
The mountain attracts thousands of climbers worldwide each year, and is on the bucket list for many. Both seasoned and novice climbers prepare for this exciting journey, ready to embrace the physical and spiritual experience of the mountain.

There is a total of four climbing routes to Mt. Fuji´s summit with Shizuoka boasting three. The climbing season on the Shizuoka side is 10 July – 10 September and last year, the Shizuoka Prefectural Government launched an online registration to preserve the sacred and beautiful Mt. Fuji and to ensure safe and comfortable climbing experiences. The Shizuoka Prefecture Fuji Climbing Pre-Registration System is available for the prefecture’s 3 trails: Fujinomiya, Gotemba and Subashiri.

To access the three climbing routes on the Shizuoka side of Mt. Fuji this year, climbers must meet the following three conditions:
• Learn rules and manners related to preserving and safely climbing Mt. Fuji in advance.
• Entry fee payment 4,000 yen per person/entry.
• Climbers entering the mountain between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. during climbing season of Shizuoka routes (10th Jul. – 10th Sep.) are required to stay overnight at a mountain hut.

The pre-registration procedure is as follows:
1. Access the website: Regulations 2025 (Shizuoka Pref./Fujinomiya, Gotemba and Subashiri Trails) | Regulations (Shizuoka Pref.) | Official Web Site for Mt. Fuji Climbing- visit the official Shizuoka Prefecture Fuji Climbing Pre-Registration website and install the official app "Shizuoka Prefecture FUJI NAVI" on your smartphone. Enter your climbing details, such as climbing trail, number of climbers, date. Climbers entering the mountain during the aforementioned hours are required to provide the name of the mountain hut. Submit payment of the mountain entry fee.
2. Complete E-Learning: Finish the required educational modules on rules, etiquette, and knowledge about Mt. Fuji.
3. Receive a QR code: this is the entry permit to show to the on-site staff on the day of the climb.

*Please note that registration to this system is not a reservation for lodging at a mountain hut.
