Thanks to its position on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, New Zealand has been shaped and coloured by volcanic and geothermal forces for thousands of years. The most active geothermal area centres around Rotorua, stretching south to the mountains of Tongariro National Park then east to Bay of Plenty’s White Island.

It makes for an exciting landscape for visitors – who can get up close to an active volcano, view gushing geysers, bathe in naturally steaming hot pools and eat delicious food cooked by the earth’s heat.
